Tracy Chapman

Tracy Chapman is an American singer-songwriter whose intimate vocals, acoustic guitar and direct storytelling brought her from Boston’s folk scene to a wide audience. Her self-titled 1988 debut paired personal narratives such as “Fast Car” with songs addressing poverty, race and social change, and its breakthrough led to multiple Grammy Awards. Across later albums Chapman moved between folk, rock, blues and fuller band arrangements while keeping her writing and voice at the center. Her studio catalog includes Crossroads, New Beginning, Telling Stories and 2008’s Our Bright Future.
