RankMyMusic Privacy Policy

RankMyMusic ("RankMyMusic," "we," "us," or "our") is an independent music-ranking platform that lets you rate individual songs, build personal album and artist rankings, compare your taste with the community, and challenge friends. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. If you have questions about this policy, contact us at contact@rankmymusic.com.

Account information: When you register, we collect your email address, a public nickname, and your date of birth (to verify age). Your email and date of birth are never displayed publicly.

Music rankings and activity: We store your star ratings, album and artist completion status, Contribution Points, achievements, profile pins, shares, and challenge participation.

Anonymous use: Before you register, you can rank music anonymously. Your ratings and progress are linked to a persistent browser/device identifier and local storage so you can resume across sessions on the same device. If you later register, we attempt to merge this anonymous progress into your account.

Technical and usage information: We may collect information such as browser type, device type, approximate region, pages visited, interactions, and timestamps. This helps us operate, secure, and improve RankMyMusic.

Cookies and similar technologies: We use cookies, local storage, and similar technologies for authentication, remembering your preferences, analytics, and — when you enable it — advertising. You can manage your privacy preferences via the Cookie settings link in the footer.

We use personal information to:

• operate, maintain, and improve RankMyMusic
• calculate and display your personal rankings, achievements, and profile
• build and display community rankings and aggregated insights
• provide Listen While You Rank via the official Apple Music embedded player
• send transactional and, with your consent, optional retention emails
• prevent abuse, manipulation, and security threats
• comply with legal obligations

For users in jurisdictions with applicable data protection laws (including the GDPR and UK GDPR), we process personal information based on: your consent; the performance of a contract (providing RankMyMusic); our legitimate interests in operating and improving the service; and compliance with legal obligations. Where consent is the basis, you may withdraw it at any time without affecting processing that occurred before withdrawal.

Your public RankMyMusic profile may display your nickname, Contribution Points, community rank, completed artists and albums, pinned favorites, achievements, and other music-related activity. Public profile content is designed around your music identity and may be visible to other users and indexed by search engines.

RankMyMusic does not publicly display private account information, including:

• your email address
• your date of birth
• login credentials or authentication tokens
• other private account data not intended for public display

Public profiles focus on rankings, music activity, achievements, and related music information.

Community rankings are built from aggregated user ratings. We may display aggregated, de-identified statistics about how the community ranks albums, tracks, and artists. Aggregated data is not linked to your individual identity in public displays.

Listen While You Rank uses the official Apple Music embedded player, which is third-party content provided by Apple. The player loads only when an eligible user chooses to listen, and subject to any privacy consent required in their region. When you activate the player, Apple may receive technical and interaction information according to Apple's own privacy practices. RankMyMusic does not ask for or store your Apple Music password, and does not require you to link your Apple Music account to your RankMyMusic account. Playback availability is controlled by Apple.

RankMyMusic may display advertising, including through Google AdSense. Advertising is non-essential — no advertising technologies load unless you enable the Advertising category in your Cookie settings. When advertising is enabled, Google and its advertising partners may process information and use cookies or similar technologies to display and measure advertising according to their own privacy policies and advertising technologies. You can control the Advertising category through your Cookie settings at any time, and withdrawing consent stops future advertising from loading. Registered users see fewer ads than anonymous users.

RankMyMusic does not sell your personal information for monetary payment. Some jurisdictions define advertising-related disclosures broadly as "sale," "sharing," or "targeted advertising"; to the extent any ad-related activity falls within such a definition, you have the right to opt out via your Cookie settings. We do not share personal information with advertising partners for their own marketing purposes without your consent.

We may use analytics tools to understand how RankMyMusic is used and to improve the product. Analytics may collect aggregated or pseudonymous usage data. You can control analytics through your Cookie settings.

You may register or sign in using third-party authentication providers such as Google or Apple ("Sign in with Apple"). When you use these providers, they authenticate you directly and share with RankMyMusic only the information necessary for sign-in (such as your email address and, where applicable, your name). RankMyMusic does not receive your third-party password. The provider's own privacy policy governs how they handle your information.

We use third-party service providers and infrastructure to operate RankMyMusic, including hosting, data storage, authentication, email delivery, analytics, and advertising. These providers process personal information on our behalf and under our instructions. Base44 may serve as an infrastructure and platform service provider for RankMyMusic. Google LLC may serve as an advertising service provider. Service providers are bound by confidentiality and may only use your information to provide services to RankMyMusic.

We may disclose personal information when we believe it is necessary to comply with legal obligations, respond to lawful requests, protect the rights, property, or safety of RankMyMusic, our users, or others, investigate fraud or security issues, or enforce our Terms & Conditions.

If RankMyMusic is involved in a merger, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of assets, personal information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you via the service or by email before your information is transferred under different terms.

RankMyMusic and its service providers may process and store personal information in countries other than your own, including the United States, Israel, and the European Economic Area. Where applicable, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers, such as standard contractual clauses or other legally recognized transfer mechanisms.

We retain personal information for as long as your account is active or as necessary to provide RankMyMusic. We may retain certain information after account deletion for limited periods to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, prevent abuse, and for security and backup purposes. We do not promise immediate deletion from every backup system.

You can request deletion of your account and associated personal information by contacting contact@rankmymusic.com. We will process deletion requests within a reasonable period, subject to limited retention for legal, security, and backup purposes as described above. Anonymous data tied to a browser identifier can be cleared by clearing your browser storage.

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

• access the personal information we hold about you
• request correction of inaccurate information
• request deletion of your personal information
• restrict or object to certain processing
• request portability of your personal information in a structured, machine-readable format
• withdraw consent where processing is based on consent

RankMyMusic respects the privacy protections under Israeli law, including the Protection of Privacy Law, 5741-1981, and the Privacy Protection Regulations (Transfer of Data to Databases Abroad), 5761-2001. Israeli residents may exercise their rights under applicable law by contacting contact@rankmymusic.com.

If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the UK GDPR, including the rights described in Section 18. The legal bases for processing are described in Section 4. You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

RankMyMusic is not directed at children under 13. You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. We collect date of birth during registration to verify age; date of birth is never displayed publicly. If you believe we have collected personal information from a child under 13, please contact contact@rankmymusic.com and we will delete it.

We take reasonable measures to protect personal information using administrative, technical, and physical safeguards. However, no system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security of your information.

RankMyMusic uses automated calculations to produce personal and community rankings from user ratings. These calculations do not produce legal or similarly significant decisions about you. You can review and change your ratings at any time.

Service emails. We send account-related emails — such as email verification, password reset, and security notices — as necessary to operate and secure your account. We may also send service notifications about actions you have explicitly initiated within RankMyMusic (for example, when someone completes a challenge you created or when a referral reaches a milestone). Service notifications do not contain promotional content and are not dependent on marketing consent. You can manage which service notification categories you receive in your Settings.

Personalized marketing and engagement emails. Optional emails — including ranking updates, new-release engagement, monthly recaps, and re-engagement recommendations — require your explicit, opt-in consent. You are not enrolled in marketing emails automatically by registering. You may opt in during signup, from your account Settings, or via an in-product prompt after your first Artist completion. Marketing consent is not required to create an account, to use registered-user music playback, or to access any core feature. You can withdraw consent or unsubscribe at any time from your account Settings or via the unsubscribe link in any marketing email; withdrawal takes effect without requiring unnecessary steps. Notification preferences can be managed in your Settings at any time.

Optional email consent is separate from your browser Cookie settings. Registration itself does not constitute newsletter or marketing consent.

RankMyMusic may contain links to third-party websites and services, including Apple Music, social media, and external resources. These third parties have their own privacy policies, and we are not responsible for their practices. When you leave RankMyMusic, you are subject to the third party's terms and privacy policy.

RankMyMusic may include affiliate links to third-party retailers or commerce partners. Affiliate links may contain referral or attribution identifiers so that the merchant or affiliate network can determine that a visit or purchase originated from RankMyMusic.

When you follow an affiliate link, you leave RankMyMusic and interact with the third-party merchant. The merchant and/or affiliate network may process information under their own privacy policies, which govern how they handle your information.

RankMyMusic does not receive your retailer account credentials or payment-card information merely because you follow an affiliate link. Purchases are completed on the third-party merchant's website.

Where permitted by the site's applicable consent and privacy settings, RankMyMusic may measure affiliate-link performance and outbound clicks. RankMyMusic may receive transaction or conversion reporting from affiliate partners, typically limited to information sufficient to calculate commissions and measure performance, such as the fact that a qualifying purchase occurred and the commission amount. The specific information RankMyMusic receives may vary by affiliate partner.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will indicate the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Material changes will be communicated via the service or by email where appropriate. Continued use of RankMyMusic after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
