RankMyMusic Privacy Policy

RankMyMusic ("RankMyMusic," "we," "us," or "our") is an independently operated personal project, run by a private individual rather than a company or nonprofit organization. It lets you rate individual songs, build personal album and artist rankings, compare your taste with the community, and challenge friends. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. For privacy questions or requests, contact us at contact@rankmymusic.com.

Account information: When you register, we collect your email address and a public nickname. Your email is never displayed publicly.

Music rankings and activity: We store your star ratings, album and artist completion status, Contribution Points, achievements, profile pins, shares, and challenge participation.

Community activities and votes: If you choose to vote or take part in a fan activity, we store the participation and vote information needed to calculate and display results, prevent fraud or abuse, and produce ranking statistics. Depending on how you participate, this information may be associated with your account or with a browser/session identifier. Aggregate results may be shown to other users.

Suggestions: If you submit an artist/catalog request or a Fun Facts suggestion, we store the suggestion and the associated account identifier so it can be reviewed, rate-limited, and handled. Fun Facts suggestions are also sent to the site operator by email for review. Please do not include personal or sensitive information in a suggestion.

Anonymous use: Before you register, you can rank music anonymously. Your ratings and progress are linked to a persistent browser/device identifier and local storage so you can resume across sessions on the same device. If you later register, we attempt to merge this anonymous progress into your account.

Technical and usage information: We may collect information such as browser type, device type, approximate region, pages visited, interactions, and timestamps. This helps us operate, secure, and improve RankMyMusic.

Cookies and similar technologies: We use cookies, local storage, and similar technologies for authentication, saving anonymous ranking progress, remembering preferences, analytics, external media, and — when you enable it — advertising. Your Cookie settings choice is saved in your browser local storage with the selected categories and decision time, and remains in effect until you change it or the consent policy version changes. You can reopen the preferences from the Cookie settings link in the footer.

We use personal information to:

• operate, maintain, and improve RankMyMusic
• calculate and display your personal rankings, achievements, and profile
• build and display community rankings and aggregated insights
• provide Listen While You Rank via the official Apple Music embedded player
• send transactional and, with your consent, optional retention emails
• prevent abuse, manipulation, and security threats
• comply with legal obligations

For users in jurisdictions with applicable data protection laws (including the GDPR and UK GDPR), we process personal information based on: your consent; the performance of a contract (providing RankMyMusic); our legitimate interests in operating and improving the service; and compliance with legal obligations. Where consent is the basis, you may withdraw it at any time without affecting processing that occurred before withdrawal.

Your public RankMyMusic profile may display your nickname, Contribution Points, community rank, completed artists and albums, pinned favorites, achievements, and other music-related activity. Public profile content is designed around your music identity and may be visible to other users and indexed by search engines.

RankMyMusic does not publicly display private account information, including:

• your email address
• login credentials or authentication tokens
• other private account data not intended for public display

Public profiles focus on rankings, music activity, achievements, and related music information.

Community rankings are built from aggregated user ratings. We may display aggregated, de-identified statistics about how the community ranks albums, tracks, and artists. Aggregated data is not linked to your individual identity in public displays.

Listen While You Rank uses the official Apple Music embedded player, which is third-party content provided by Apple. The player loads only when an eligible user chooses to listen, and subject to any privacy consent required in their region. When you activate the player, Apple may receive technical and interaction information according to Apple's own privacy practices. RankMyMusic does not ask for or store your Apple Music password, and does not require you to link your Apple Music account to your RankMyMusic account. Playback availability is controlled by Apple.

RankMyMusic may use standard social-network advertising pixels for campaign measurement. The site currently uses the Reddit Pixel, which loads only after you enable the Advertising category. It may receive page-visit events and limited conversion events such as starting a ranking, completing an album, or registering. RankMyMusic does not pass your email, name, date of birth, or account ID in these pixel events; Reddit may still receive technical information from your browser and process it under its own privacy policy.

Google AdSense may also be used to display and measure ads. Its script loads only when Advertising consent is enabled and the provider is configured as ready; no AdSense ads load otherwise. Advertising is optional, and you can change the Advertising setting at any time. Registered users see fewer ads than anonymous users.

RankMyMusic does not sell your personal information for monetary payment. Some jurisdictions define advertising-related disclosures broadly as "sale," "sharing," or "targeted advertising"; to the extent any ad-related activity falls within such a definition, you have the right to opt out via your Cookie settings. We do not share personal information with advertising partners for their own marketing purposes without your consent.

When you enable Analytics in Cookie settings, RankMyMusic sends usage events to Base44 Analytics to measure how the site is used and improve its performance and features. Events can include page and artist/album views; searches (including the text entered in a search); ranking starts, track ratings, and album completions; shares and challenges; Apple Music player interactions; and clicks on commercial offers. Depending on the event, the data may include an artist, album, or track identifier, rating or completion details, whether the session is anonymous or registered, the page or feature used, event time, and campaign attribution tags. The site does not intentionally include email addresses, dates of birth, passwords, or authentication tokens in these event properties.

Separately, RankMyMusic operates its own traffic-session measurement for site operations and quality. For ordinary visitor sessions it runs only when Analytics consent is enabled. It may record a session identifier, page-view count, timestamps, a sanitized landing-page path, referring website hostname, campaign source tags, browser category, and a hashed visitor key. Where a registered user has consented, a session may be associated with their account to measure registration conversions. The site's collector does not store IP addresses, full referrer URLs, or raw user-agent strings. Limited QA, administrator, and bot-classification records may be processed to identify and exclude those sessions from human-traffic reporting; without consent, those records omit visitor identifiers, paths, and attribution data.

These analytics are used for site-use measurement and operational analysis, not to follow you across unrelated websites or to create an individual advertising profile. Advertising pixels are described separately above. You can control Analytics through Cookie settings.

You may register or sign in using third-party authentication providers such as Google or Apple ("Sign in with Apple"). When you use these providers, they authenticate you directly and share with RankMyMusic only the information necessary for sign-in (such as your email address and, where applicable, your name). RankMyMusic does not receive your third-party password. The provider's own privacy policy governs how they handle your information.

We use third-party service providers and infrastructure to operate RankMyMusic, including Base44 for hosting, platform services, data storage, authentication, and analytics; email delivery providers; Apple for embedded media when enabled; and advertising partners such as Reddit and, if configured, Google AdSense. These providers may process information under their own privacy terms and, where applicable, on our behalf to provide services to RankMyMusic. Their own privacy policies also govern information they collect directly through their services.

We may disclose personal information when we believe it is necessary to comply with legal obligations, respond to lawful requests, protect the rights, property, or safety of RankMyMusic, our users, or others, investigate fraud or security issues, or enforce our Terms & Conditions.

If RankMyMusic is involved in a merger, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of assets, personal information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you via the service or by email before your information is transferred under different terms.

RankMyMusic and its service providers may process and store personal information in countries other than your own, including the United States, Israel, and the European Economic Area. Where applicable, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers, such as standard contractual clauses or other legally recognized transfer mechanisms.

We retain personal information for as long as your account is active or as necessary to provide RankMyMusic. We may retain certain information after account deletion for limited periods to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, prevent abuse, and for security and backup purposes. We do not promise immediate deletion from every backup system.

You can delete your account yourself from your account settings, or request deletion by contacting contact@rankmymusic.com. We will process deletion requests within a reasonable period, subject to limited retention for legal, security, and backup purposes as described above. Anonymous data tied to a browser identifier can be cleared by clearing your browser storage.

Deleting your account keeps your rankings in the community. They are detached from your account and attributed to an anonymous profile, so they count exactly as if you had ranked without an account from the start. Your profile details, points and account access are deleted, and the rankings cannot be linked back to you.

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

• access the personal information we hold about you
• request correction of inaccurate information
• request deletion of your personal information
• restrict or object to certain processing
• request portability of your personal information in a structured, machine-readable format
• withdraw consent where processing is based on consent

RankMyMusic respects the privacy protections under Israeli law, including the Protection of Privacy Law, 5741-1981, and the Privacy Protection Regulations (Transfer of Data to Databases Abroad), 5761-2001. Israeli residents may exercise their rights under applicable law by contacting contact@rankmymusic.com.

Where the GDPR, UK GDPR, or Swiss data-protection law applies to the relevant processing, you may have rights including those described in Section 18. The territorial scope of these laws depends on the applicable rules and the circumstances of the processing; simply accessing the site from a particular location does not by itself determine which law applies. Where applicable, you may lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

RankMyMusic is not directed at children under 13. You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If you believe we have collected personal information from a child under 13, please contact contact@rankmymusic.com and we will delete it.

We take reasonable measures to protect personal information using administrative, technical, and physical safeguards. However, no system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security of your information.

RankMyMusic uses automated calculations to produce personal and community rankings from user ratings. These calculations do not produce legal or similarly significant decisions about you. You can review and change your ratings at any time.

Service emails. We send account-related emails — such as email verification, password reset, and security notices — as necessary to operate and secure your account. We may also send service notifications about actions you have explicitly initiated within RankMyMusic (for example, when someone completes a challenge you created or when a referral reaches a milestone). Service notifications do not contain promotional content and are not dependent on marketing consent. You can manage which service notification categories you receive in your Settings.

Personalized marketing and engagement emails. Optional emails — including ranking updates, new-release engagement, monthly recaps, and re-engagement recommendations — require your explicit, opt-in consent. You are not enrolled in marketing emails automatically by registering. You may opt in during signup, from your account Settings, or via an in-product prompt after your first Artist completion. Marketing consent is not required to create an account, to use registered-user music playback, or to access any core feature. You can withdraw consent or unsubscribe at any time from your account Settings or via the unsubscribe link in any marketing email; withdrawal takes effect without requiring unnecessary steps. Notification preferences can be managed in your Settings at any time.

Optional email consent is separate from your browser Cookie settings. Registration itself does not constitute newsletter or marketing consent.

RankMyMusic may contain links to third-party websites and services, including Apple Music, social media, and external resources. These third parties have their own privacy policies, and we are not responsible for their practices. When you leave RankMyMusic, you are subject to the third party's terms and privacy policy.

RankMyMusic may include affiliate links to third-party retailers or commerce partners. Affiliate links may contain referral or attribution identifiers so that the merchant or affiliate network can determine that a visit or purchase originated from RankMyMusic.

When you follow an affiliate link, you leave RankMyMusic and interact with the third-party merchant. The merchant and/or affiliate network may process information under their own privacy policies, which govern how they handle your information.

RankMyMusic does not receive your retailer account credentials or payment-card information merely because you follow an affiliate link. Purchases are completed on the third-party merchant's website.

Where permitted by the site's applicable consent and privacy settings, RankMyMusic may measure affiliate-link performance and outbound clicks. RankMyMusic may receive transaction or conversion reporting from affiliate partners, typically limited to information sufficient to calculate commissions and measure performance, such as the fact that a qualifying purchase occurred and the commission amount. The specific information RankMyMusic receives may vary by affiliate partner.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will indicate the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Material changes will be communicated via the service or by email where appropriate. Continued use of RankMyMusic after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
