Doja Cat

Doja Cat moves between rap, R&B, and pop with a performer’s instinct for changing tone: nimble verses, melodic hooks, dry humor, and carefully shaped vocal characters can coexist in one song. Her albums trace a shift from the loose, genre-mixing approach of Amala and Hot Pink toward the expansive pop-rap arrangements of Planet Her, the harder, rap-focused posture of Scarlet, and Vie’s return to glossy, retro-colored pop. The changes make the catalog especially interesting to rank because they are not simply steps toward one fixed genre. Each album makes a different case for what her versatility means: playful genre-hopping, tightly engineered hitmaking, or a more pointedly self-directed sound. The strongest comparison is often between a record’s overall flow and the variety of ideas inside it.
